Wayuu Bags - Mochilas Wayuu
The Wayuu people lives in the north-eastern peninsula of Colombia where the department of La Guajira is located. The department limits towards the Caribbean Ocean in the North and maintains a border with Venezuela towards the East. The Wayuu Tribe has adapted to difficult desert climate conditions by raising endemic species; such as goats and growing corn and other plant species.
Behind the Wayuu knitting there is a great meaning about women and all their virtues. They are the leaders of the Wayuu community and are in charge of combining techniques to make the kanas (figures) in these Colombian bags. While man are in charge of building homes, repairs taking care of the goats and sell the crafts at the market.
